Farm Animal Videos

Sophie & Telulah.jpg

Join me as I add each and every new fur baby to our little farm.  Sometimes I know what I am doing and I find solutions that make them so happy.... and sometimes I fail.  An animal might get loose and get hurt. But I have found that the journey is so sweet and I feel whole! I hope you laugh and cry with me and feel like you are not alone in your animal husbandry.

Year 1 we raised Holsteins for meat. Year 2 we attempted to raise a Jersey. Unfortunately as a weak bull calf he caught Pneumonia. It was sad.  When we are ready to try again,  we feel we had an easier time with Holsteins.

After 2 years of raising mini pigs as pets, we made the leap to adding meat pigs... Heritage Guinea Hogs to be exact.  We brought Sophie and Telulah home this past December.  By April, Wilbur's gift before he was castrated, was to give them both piglets.  Four months later, we have hybrid Mini pig/Guinea Hogs.  We shall see if they can grow to be meat pigs or not.

This year we also added two Sebastopol Geese.  I have wanted to get a breeding pair for quite some time.  They remind me of ballerinas.  I made sure that I spent the whole first month with them, "imprinting", so they would view me as their mama.  We had pool time every day and I rocked them in the rocking chair afterwards, singing to them until they snuggled up and fell asleep for a sweet nap.  Geese often get a bad rap for being agressive, but just like so many other animals in the world, it is often due to how they are raised.  Now that they are grown, I can walk right into their coop, scoop them up and kiss their sweet faces, free from agression.

"But ask the beasts, and they will teach you: the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you: or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this?  In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind."
Job 12:7-10

“Let a man decide upon his favorite animal and make a study of it…. let him learn to understand its sounds and motions. The animals want to communicate with man" Brave Buffalo, Sioux

"Animals are born who they are, accept it, and that is that.  They live with greater peace than people do." Gregory Maguire
